BIG launch of Kidnap Wednesday at Black Box.
Building new skills and experiences through a new and exciting concept, ‘Kidnap Wednesday’ will bring together Trainees and Volunteers in an informal setting where learning and sharing of skills can take place.
Kidnap Wednesday was triggered by NOW Volunteers requests to have a more active involvement with trainees and enable Volunteers to showcase the vast array of creative skills they bring to the table.
Speaking about the plans already in place for Kidnap Wednesday, Jayne McStay, Volunteer Co-ordinator stated:
‘Kidnap will present a number of outcomes and we plan to use this opportunity to develop a training model for Volunteers to help address any barriers or concerns they may have working closely with adults with learning difficulties and equip volunteers with skills and confidence to move into other trainee support roles throughout the organisation.’
Commenting on the benefits of Kidnap Wednesday, Maeve Monaghan, NOW CEO stated:
‘The aim of this work is to tie into the ‘health and well being’ strand of Project Unify. We will monitor the benefits of social interaction outside a training environment, the soft skills advancement and their benefits in preparation for future work opportunities.
As part of NOW’s 10th year celebrations we will be hosting NOWfest at the Black Box in August, Kidnap Wednesday will build the momentum for this event and hopefully produce some craft pieces which can be showcased at the event.’
