Investors in People Award Recognises Excellence at NOW
What are you doing to keep your business competitive in tough economic times? Investors in People (IiP) is a business improvement tool that helps organisations meet their business objectives by enabling employers to link business priorities with the associated people issues, through a range of support, to address any areas for improvement. In the competitive nature of the voluntary sector, this is only too important.
Pam Hunter, Operations Director, explains why NOW used Investors in People as a business improvement tool: “We always knew we were doing a good job, but wanted to have recognition for it; we wanted that rubber stamp. IiP was a way for us to obtain practical suggestions for improvement in our company.”
We asked Pam if working with IiP was what she had expected: “No, I had heard different stories about IiP. It actually took longer for us than expected to embed the thinking of IiP into our organisation, but it was certainly worth the effort. We had issues around culture and communication and found IiP an excellent tool for enabling us to communicate more effectively.”
IiP has a proven track record of business benefits, including increased profitability and decreased labour turnover. Pam adds specific benefits that IiP brought to NOW: “Clear accountability, clear communication and clear guidelines.” Pam continues: “Every member of staff now knows their own job role and where they fit into the bigger picture - now and in the future. IiP pulled us out of our comfort zone, but this has proven extremely beneficial and has really helped us look forward and beyond to keep improving. ”
